Tips for perfect Aam Panna

Use unripe, tart mangoes. For the flavor to be ideal, the mangoes must be sour.

I would recommend peeling the mangoes before boiling them. You can boil the mangoes in drinking water. In this instance, you would not need to strain.

In a pressure cooker, cook the mangoes for 4-5 whistles.

Light brown sugar, jaggery, or sugar syrup can be substituted for white sugar.

Refrigerate the panna and serve chilled.

Add mint leaves to the mix for another variation.

Aam Panna – Variations

Roasted Aam Panna: Roasted mango can be a better option for you if you don’t want to boil it. This recipe is made by roasting unripe mango on a gas stove on a low-medium flame and flipping/turning it occasionally with tongs to ensure it is uniformly cooked on all sides. Once mango is cooked well, remove the mango from the heat and peel off the skin.

Aam Panna with Jaggery instead of Sugar: We all love healthy drinks so why not use Jaggery in place of sugar. To create this version, replace the sugar with jaggery powder. Jaggery is a natural sweetener that is highly recommended not only for this drink but also for other drinks where it can be used.

Aam Panna with Mint leaves: This recipe is made by combining fresh mint leaves with the traditional Aam Panna recipe. Fresh pudina (mint) leaves are added to give it a refreshing twist and a pinch of minty flavour. I would highly recommend to try this recipe as it’s really minty…!

Serving suggestions

Best to be served chilled in an ice-filled glass. Fill your selected glass halfway with Aam panna, top with ice cubes, then pour chilled water over it to serve. Some fresh mint leaves and a slice of lemon should be used to garnish this drink. You may serve this as a standalone drink or with your favorite side dishes/snacks such as Crispy Smashed Potatoes.

Storing Aam Panna for later use

Aam Panna can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3-5 days. Transfer the refreshing Panna drink to an airtight container or bottle and chill. In general, I prefer to store drinks in bottles for later use. Please care to shake the bottle vigorously before serving to thoroughly mix all spices.
